Terry and the Pirates
Mike Lurenz, Tenor – Mike has been a barbershopper for 41 years, most of that time spent with the Southerntiersmen. Having served in a variety of administrative and musical roles with the chapter, he is also the current director. He has sung in several quartets, most notably The Troubadours. Married to the lovely Holly, he has taught high school English at Maine-Endwell for 22 years. Beyond his love of singing and the thrill to be called a Pirate, he is also active in karate, hunting, and fishing.
Terry Purtell, Lead – Terry has enjoyed being a member of the BHS for 10 years and loves singing with the STM Chorus and having fun singing with “Terry and the Pirates.” Terry and his wife of 48 years, Joan, raised two sons and live on the east side of Binghamton. He enjoys spending time with his son Brian, daughter- in-law, Kat, grandchildren Seamus and Finnigan Rose, playing a round of golf, playing cards with the East Side Poker Club, and fishing with Brian and Seamus.
Art Williams, Bass – Art has been a member of the Southerntiersmen Chorus for 43 years and has enjoyed singing in several quartets, including “TGIF,” “4 Past Midnight,” and now “Terry and the Pirates.” He loves singing all kinds of music in the barbershop style, Gospel Singing, and doing comedy. Art and his wife, Shirley, a Southerntiersmate and a big supporter of the chorus, live in Apalachin, NY. After retiring from IBM/Owego with 44 years of service he now works for himself doing electrical, plumbing, and many other jobs. He especially enjoys traveling and spending time with their two daughters and five grandsons in Florida and Utah.
Stephen Foulk, Baritone – Recently conscripted by the Pirates, Stephen is delighted to sail the seas with such talented barbershoppers. Stephen has been singing all his life in church, college, and community choirs and with the Southerntiersmen for more than 23 years. He is a retired appellate court attorney who still works as a lawyer focusing on matrimonial and not-for-profit corporation law. In addition to singing solos in local churches and traveling accompanied by his pianist wife, Joanne, he enjoys photography, model railroading, and providing audio and video services to community organizations.
